Cross-cutting initiative 1 : Ecological health observatory

Main objective

In the spirit of the "One Health and 'Pleine santé', and fed by the work of priority research areas considered in a systemic and holistic manner. over the long term, the ecological health observatory defines itself as " a scientific and public observatory on the impact of global change and health practices". While highlighting the issues relating to priority areas (circulating and emerging zoonotic pathogens, antibiotic resistance, as well as the impact of the environment and nature on mental health) and while research projects have a limited duration, the ecological health observatory will ensure the sustainability of the knowledge produced, and its recurrent mobilisation for in-depth research with the support of a network of players and participants in order to long-term monitoring on populations, ecosystems, domestic and wild animals.

By combining environmental, epidemiological and ecological data, the ZACAM ecological health observatory will enableidentify trends at an early stage, and anticipate health risks and trajectories, while promoting global and preventive solutions.

Description of the work

The Ecological Health Observatory can draw on existing studies by the Tour du Valat on the ecosystems and fauna of the Camargue. The challenge here will be to mobilise the networks of stakeholders (animal and human health professionals) to involve them from the outset in the ZACAM initiative, which is already underway through current collaborations (such as Wenus Oc) or linked to projects such as ZOOCAM or under construction/development, involving these stakeholders and the population. Several projects are being developed in each of these areas. The first of these is ZOOCAM and, more broadly, the PEPR PREZODE, which is encouraging collaboration and the dissemination of experience. The INSTEAD project piloted by ANSES (winner in 2025 of the 3rd wave of the PEPR PREZODE) will enable us to move in this direction, and links have already been established.
